Funk set for jazz fest
The Jazz By the Boulevard festival this year will add a little funk to the mix with headliner George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic set for Sept. 11. Other acts scheduled for this yearÂ’s fest include The Blind Boys of Alabama on Sept. 13 and Chris Botti on Sept. 12.
Clinton’s career dates back to 1955 when he was crooning as part of a doo-wop vocal group known as The Parliaments. He is best known for his work with Parliament Funkadelic in the ‘70s when the band had hits with songs like “Atomic Dog” and “Flashlight.” The band was known for its outrageous stage shows that blended funk, jazz, soul and rock. Clinton, 68, recently appeared on the CMT television show Gone Country where he wrote and performed country music.
Admission to the festival is $5 per person, per day for general festival admission and lawn seating. Children under 12 are free. The seventh annual Jazz By the Boulevard Music and Arts Festival is produced by Historic Camp Bowie Initiatives.
In conjunction with the announcement of George ClintonÂ’s appearance, the Omni Fort Worth Hotel announced a Jazz Under the Stars getaway package during the festival.

Carter receives grants
The Amon Carter Museum announced July 16 it has received grants from The Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation and the Erwin E. Smith Foundation.
With a $25,000 grant, the King Foundation is supporting the museumÂ’s educator programs, which include interactive workshops that explore the museumÂ’s collection and special exhibitions, training sessions tailored to individual school districts, programs for pre-service teachers, and materials related to American art available for free loan to educators through the Teaching Resource Center.
“Last year, the Amon Carter Museum reached more than 4,500 educators,” says Stacy Fuller, head of education at the Carter. “The King Foundation grant will allow the museum to not only increase the number of local teachers served but also provide additional classroom resources.”
The Erwin E. Smith Foundation grant of $10,000 will allow the museum to broadcast Cowboy Close-Up, an interactive student videoconference. With the grant, the museum can provide a free broadcast for 40 schools, as well as provide participating schools with copies of the childrenÂ’s book Cowboy with a Camera: Erwin E. Smith, Cowboy Photographer and other classroom resources.
The Foundation previously funded the development of the Cowboy Close-Up videoconference, as well as online collection and teaching guides. Approximately 7,500 students have been reached through the Erwin Smith-focused videoconferences since 2008, according to Fuller.
