Restaurant Roundup: A peek at M&O Station Grill

 + View Slideshow

At the corner of Carroll and Whitmore streets, one block off of White Settlement, Danny and Rosa Badillo of M & O Station Grill serve an old-fashioned burger and fat fries like we havenÂ’t had in years.  It was wonderful.... greasy fingers and all.

There are eight other burgers for you to choose from. Creative endeavors like the Tijuana with roasted poblano and guacamole, Vegetarian, King George with twice the meat and twice the cheese, or the Bleu Cow with blue cheese and bacon.

The moment you drive up and see that the grill is next door to LeonardÂ’s Museum, you will understand the menu.  If you donÂ’t, do ask about MartyÂ’s chicken salad, MarvinÂ’s tuna salad, ObieÂ’s chicken chipotle club, and Leo Turkey Provolone.  DonÂ’t overlook the soups such as chicken tortilla or tomato basil.  And Texas style chili.  Hand breaded chicken fried steak is a special everyday plus sides of green beans or broccoli. Entree salads such as the Trio, the Greek Chicken, or the chicken Caesar are large — you wonÂ’t go away hungry.

Save yourself for the warm apple pie a la mode with caramel sauce — killer good!  The crust is short and the apple hunks slightly crisp.

KidÂ’s meals are offered to encourage families to come and see the museum with window displays and memoirs from Leonards store.  Rosa said “Some customers go in, have a look, and come away crying remembering when they went to Leonards to talk to Santa Claus.  They may even see their photos.”  We could see the spirit come alive in RosaÂ’s face as she explained that Marty Leonard had an idea.  “LetÂ’s put a restaurant with the museum.”  Long term plan is to build a funky old town with a coffee shop, car repair, grocery store, etc. across the street.

On the other side of the grill toward Carroll is a T-shirt shop that also houses antiques.  ItÂ’s charming to browse and spend some melancholy moments remembering the first television or  record player you ever saw.

All in all, M & O, LeonardÂ’s Museum, and Fort Worth Screen Printing for the antiques are food for the soul and memories for the heart.
